In 2000 he managed to qualify for the national championships, finishing fifth in the 5000 and 10,000 meters , respectively . He was temporarily accepted into a running club for the elite and ran his first marathon in August in 2:20:12 hours.

Further training in cross-country enabled him to take part in the 2001 cross-country championships in Ostend at the beginning of the next season , where he finished 14th on the short and 27th place on the long distance. He was signed by KIMbia Athletics and has now successfully competed in road races . During this season he was also successful as a track runner and set national records over 5000 and 10,000 meters. At the Commonwealth Games in Manchester he won the bronze medal over 10,000 meters, and at the Great North Run (a half marathon whose route is not suitable for the best list because of the steep gradient) he came second in 1:00:02 hours.

In the following year he was plagued by injuries and did not get past twelfth place at the World Athletics Championships in Paris / Saint-Denis over 10,000 meters. Twelfth. At the Half Marathon World Championships in Vilamoura he suffered from cramps in the closing stages, but still fought his way through and with a fifth place contributed to Tanzania winning team gold for the first time at the Half Marathon World Championships. A week later, Msuri won the Great South Run .

At the end of the year he was involved in a serious traffic accident, but suffered only minor injuries. His professional marathon debut at the 2004 London Marathon started off well. Up to 34 kilometers he was able to keep up with Evans Rutto and Sammy Korir , who finished first and second, but after a fall, Msuri suffered from muscle problems and fell back to ninth place. At the 10,000-meter run at the Athens Olympics , Msuri gave up due to a hip injury.

In 2005 he finished sixth at the Edmonton World Half Marathon Championships and won the Great South Run for the second time. In contrast, he finished 18th in the 10,000-meter run at the World Athletics Championships in Helsinki .
