There has been significant change in France over the course of the 20th century. While France was still a country with a very small Jewish population at the beginning of the 20th century (estimated at around 50,000, which at that time was not even a tenth of German Jews), France is now the country with the largest Jewish community in Europe and the third largest (after Israel and the United States) Jewish population worldwide. For several decades, Sephardic Jews have represented the majority. The spectrum of Jewish religiosity is diverse and ranges from mostly secularized Jews to ultra-orthodox Haredim .
The Jewish community in France is largely concentrated in urban regions such as Paris , Marseille or Strasbourg .
