The Kahlheid near Morscheid-Riedenburg in the Idarwald ( Hunsrück ) is 766 m above sea level. NHN high mountain on the border of the districts of Birkenfeld and Bernkastel-Wittlich , Rhineland-Palatinate .
The mountain is after the Erbeskopf 2.6 km southwest ( 816.3 m ; with its northeast spur Sandkopf , 807.3 m and the southwest spur Springenkopf , 784.2 m ) in the Black Forest high forest and the 12 km northeast (both as the crow flies ) Elevation on the two stones ( 766.2 m ; also in the Idarwald), the third highest in Rhineland-Palatinate.

The Kahlheid lies in the northeast of the Saar-Hunsrück Nature Park . Its summit, belonging to the area of the city of Morbach, rises 3.8 km west-south-west of the Allenbach community , 3.2 km south-east of Morscheid-Riedenburg (Morbach), 3.2 km south-south-east of Hoxel (Morbach) and 7 km (depending on the beeline) south von Morbach; the municipal boundary from Morbach to Allenbach runs a few meters southeast below the summit. The small Simm rises southwest of the mountain as the left source brook of the Schalesbach tributary, the single stream , north of the small Herchenbach as the right source brook of the single stream and south of the Idarbach .
Natural allocation
The Kahlheid belongs to the natural spatial main unit group Hunsrück (No. 24) and in the main unit Hoch- and Idarwald (242) to the subunit Idarwald (242.2), whereby its landscape to the east in the main unit Simmerner Mulde (241) in the southwest end of the Kempfelder Hochmulde (241.2) falls.
Protected areas
South of the Kahlheid lies the nature reserve (NSG) headwaters of the Idarbach ( CDDA -Nr. 165061; designated 1987; 9 hectares ), to which east the NSG Schwarzenbruch (CDDA-Nr. 165503; designated 1988; 1.1 km² ) follows. The Hilsbruch NSG is located on the northern flank of the mountain (CDDA no. 81880; designated 1983; 8 ha). On the south east side of the mountain are parts of the protected landscape Hochwald Idarwald with peripheral regions (CDDA No. 321654;., 1976; 47.182 square kilometers) and those of the fauna Habitats -region Hochwald (FFH No. 6208-302;. 30.38 square kilometers ).

Near the peak of the wooded Kahlheid stands the 107 m high Kahlheid telecommunications tower , which is used, among other things, for amateur and microwave radio communications.
Traffic and walking
The federal road 269 runs over the eastern highlands of the Kahlheid between Morbach in the north and Oberhambach in the south , on which the federal road 422 runs south of the mountain near the source of the Idarbach at the Idarbrücke and runs from there to Allenbach with the one from the bridge past the Erbeskopf and at Deuselbach to Bäsch cross state road 164 leading to it .
