Karl Rudolf Ollech , von Ollech since 1861 (born June 22, 1811 in Graudenz ; † October 25, 1884 in Berlin ) was a Prussian infantry general .

Karl Rudolf was the son of the captain a. D. Christian Ollech (1782–1835) and his wife Christiane Henriette, née Galant (1777–1859).

Military career

Ollech attended schools in Trier and Jülich . He then graduated from the cadet houses in Berlin and Potsdam from April 1823 . On July 26, 1828, Ollech was transferred as a second lieutenant to the 16th Infantry Regiment of the Prussian Army , in which his father had last served for many years. Ollech was sent to the General War School from October 1, 1832 to June 30, 1835 for further training . He then worked himself from 1836 to 1839 as a teacher at the division school of the 14th Division and from 1839 to 1845 at the Berlin Cadet House. In the meantime, Ollech had become Prime Lieutenant on July 20, 1843 . In 1849 he made as a captain and company commander in the 30th Infantry Regiment of the campaign in Baden with, came in 1853 as a Major in the General Staff of the 13th Division and 1,855 in the General Staff , where he fell to the leadership of the military history department. He also held lectures at the War Academy, was a member of the Higher Military Study Commission of the Cadet Corps and the division schools, and in 1858 also the War School. Appointed head of department in the General Staff in 1857, Ollech rose to lieutenant colonel in 1858 and to colonel in 1860 .

At the coronation of King Wilhelm I , Ollech was raised to the hereditary nobility in recognition of his good and loyal service . In 1861 he became the commander of the cadet corps, and it is well known how harshly he, as government commissioner in the state parliament in 1862, called the cadets the prime of the nation, countered the feelings of the MPs at the time. Since 1864 Major General , in 1865 Ollech took command of the 17th Infantry Brigade .

At the head of the same he took part in the V Army Corps in the 1866 campaign and was so badly wounded by a shot in the thigh near Nachod that he was no longer fit for field service even after his recovery. For his achievements during the campaign he was awarded the order Pour le Mérite on September 20, 1866 . At the end of 1866 he was promoted to lieutenant general and as such Ollech was made available to the chief of the army general staff on January 17, 1868. On July 11, 1870, he was entrusted with the management of business as governor of Koblenz and Ehrenbreitstein Fortress . After only two months he was released from this position and was then entrusted with the management of business as governor of Strasbourg during the war against France . After the war ended, Ollech was appointed director of the War Academy on May 20, 1871. His longstanding services were honored on January 18, 1873 with the award of the Order of the Red Eagle, 1st class with oak leaves and swords on the ring, and on March 22, 1873 with the award of the character of General of the Infantry. On December 15, 1877 was Ollech with board for disposition made and award of Grand Commander of the Royal House Order of Hohenzollern with the conduct of business as governor of the Invalides Berlin commissioned. On April 30, 1878, Ollech received his appointment to this position.

He died of a phlebitis in Berlin on October 25, 1884 and was buried three days later in the local invalids cemetery.

Ollech, a true representative of the dutiful , zealous, rough and tough Prussian soldiery, at the same time of strictly orthodox piety, earned himself an important name as a writer of war history. Among other things, he was editor of the military weekly newspaper for a long time .

family

Ollech had married Anna Penelope Pemberton (1824–1866) on October 29, 1850 in Karlsruhe . He had the following children with her:

After the death of his wife, Ollech married Georgiana Jane Pemberton (1822–1913) in Berlin on June 12, 1867.
