Johann Leo Karl Graf von Schlieffen (born January 10, 1792 in Stojentin , † December 4, 1866 in Pau , France ) was a Prussian lieutenant general , knight of the Order of St. John and Lord of Schmandt and Marienhof in Mecklenburg-Schwerin .

Life

Karl was a son of the captain a. D. and Mr. auf Stojentin Johann Ernst Ludwig von Schlieffen (1759–1819) and his wife Dorothea Luise, born von Kleist (1768–1820) from the Segentin house.

Military career

Schlieffen graduated from the Ecole Militaire and resigned after the War of the Fourth Coalition on May 10, 1808 Portepeefähnrich in the regiment of the Guard of Prussian army one. There he was promoted to secondary lieutenant on May 2, 1809 , and on October 6, 1811, he was sent to the General War School for further training . On July 21, 1849, he had been appointed commander of the 2nd Guard Landwehr Brigade in Berlin. On April 4, 1850, Schlieffen was promoted to major general and on June 16, 1850, he was entrusted with the management of business as Commandant of Berlin. On March 27, 1851 he was additionally appointed commander of the 1st Guard Landwehr Brigade and on June 21, 1851 was awarded the Order of St. Stanislaus, 1st class.

On July 22, 1851, Schlieffen received notification that he would take over the post of Commandant of Rendsburg for two months from August 8 . For the duration of this activity, with the powers of a division commander, he was granted military jurisdiction and the right to confirm the troops under his command. After an extension, he was appointed commander of the 1st Guard Infantry Brigade on November 4, 1851 and he was also entrusted with the management of business as the commander of Potsdam. On July 13, 1854 he received the star for the Order of the Red Eagle, 2nd class with oak leaves and swords. Under awarding of the character as a Lieutenant General Schlieffen took his on March 26, 1855 farewell with board . On January 18, 1864, he was made Honorary Senior of the Iron Cross, 2nd class. He died on December 4, 1866 in Pau, France.

Schlieffen married Luise Clementine von Wedel (1801-1836) on June 7, 1820 in Potsdam . The couple had several children:
