The 1956/57 season was the eleventh season of the Class A as the highest Soviet ice hockey league . The Soviet championship title was secured for the first time ever by Krylja Sowetow Moscow , who won 29 of their 30 games, while Burewestnik Moscow was relegated to the second division.

The 16 teams of Class A played in the main round in a return match against each group opponent, whereby the number of games per team was 30. The team with the most points became champions. The bottom of the table rose to the second division. Each team received two points for a win, one point for a draw and zero points for a defeat.
