The 1970/71 season of the Vysschaya League was the 25th season of the highest Soviet ice hockey division . The Soviet championship title was secured for the 16th time by CSKA Moscow , while Sibir Novosibirsk was relegated to the second division .

The nine teams of the Vysschaya League played five times against each opponent in a common main round, making the total number of games per team 40. The team with the highest points became champions, while the bottom of the table was relegated directly to the second division. Each team received two points for a win, one point for a draw and zero points for a defeat.
