The 1969/70 season was the 24th season of the Class A as the highest Soviet ice hockey league . The Soviet championship title was secured for the 15th time by CSKA Moscow , while Dynamo Kiev , Lokomotiv Moscow and Avtomobilist Sverdlovsk were relegated to the second division.

The twelve teams of Class A played four times against each opponent in a common main round, making the total number of games per team 44. The team with the best points became champions, while the ninth had to relegate to the second division champions and the last three were relegated directly to the second division. Each team received two points for a win, one point for a draw and zero points for a defeat.
