Local election in Turkey 1930

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The local elections in Turkey in 1930 took place during Mustafa Kemal Ataturk's presidency and were the first multi-party elections in the history of the Republic of Turkey .

The Republican People's Party (CHF, now CHP) led by President Ataturk and the opposition Free Republican Party (SCF) chaired by Fethi Okyar (then Ali Fethi Bey) took part in the election, in which women were granted the right to vote for the first time . The SCF won the elections in October 1930 in 30 of 512 parishes, but was dissolved a little later on November 17, 1930.

Fethi Bey has been satisfied with the results and has also sparked a debate in the face of the thoroughly strained relationship between the two parties.

Results

  • In Istanbul the CHF 35,942 and the SCF 12,868 votes;
  • In Izmir the CHF was 14,624, the SCF 9,950 votes;
  • In Pergamon : CHF at 250, SCF at 1,371;
  • Merzifon : CHF at 496, SCF at 557;
  • Samsun : 416 votes for CHF and 3,312 for the SCF.
