Compendium ( Latin for, savings') is the only video album of the German synth pop - duo Wolfsheim .

Creation and artwork

With the exception of two cover versions, all titles were written by the two Wolfsheim members Peter Heppner and Markus Reinhardt, the song The Sparrows and the Nightingales in collaboration with Carlos Perón . All titles (in the original) were produced by Jose Alvarez-Brill or Carlos Perón, partly in collaboration with Heppner and Reinhardt or other producers. The mixing took place under the direction of Jürgen Jansen. The cameramen Robert Bachmann, Stefan Mampouya and Jens Zitzmann were responsible for the creation of the film recordings. The album was released under the music label Strange Ways Records and distributed by Indigo . On the blue cover of the video album - next to the artist name and album title - you can see a waterfall . The artwork comes from the Graphic Works Ottensen. The photos on the cover, in the booklet and in a slideshow on the DVD are from Christian Ohla, Oliver Schultz-Bernd, Andrea Seeger and Stefan Wulf.

The total running time of the compendium is approximately 133 minutes. The TV standard is PAL 4: 3 . The video album is in Dolby Digital 2.0. The musical film was classified as an age restriction for the age of six.

Publication and promotion

Compendium was first published on April 16, 2002 in Germany. The video album consists of 33 titles and includes a concert recording, music videos and interviews. The concert was recorded during the second part of the Spectators Tour , at a concert in the old slaughterhouse in Dresden on March 6, 1999. There was no single release from this music film.

background information

The element of water serves as the basic element of the video album (which can also be recognized by the waterfall on the cover picture). This can be traced back to the “water time” in 1999, when Wolfsheim delighted several cities with their Spectators tour and celebrated their “Aqua Show”. As a drop of water you move from concert recording to concert recording to an exclusive interview and swim in a sea of passion.

content

All lyrics of the video album are written in German or English. Musically, the songs move in the realm of dark waves and synth pop . The music film consists of 24 live recordings, seven music videos, an interview and an audio slideshow . The intro is a purely instrumental piece . When Love Is Strange is a cover of published 1956 original by Mickey & Sylvia. In Ruby, Do not Take Your Love to Town , there also is a cover version. The original was written in 1967 by the American Mel Tillis and first interpreted by Johnny Darrell. An included interview is from the Zillo Festival 2001 .

Reviews

On the other hand, Movieman.de's assessment was rather negative . The internet portal described Kompendium as optically quite clean, but acoustically rather pale. What musically is a not very inventive mix of styles from Pet Shop Boys , Michael Nyman and Modern Talking , may stylistically still be quite entertaining. But if the craft shows noticeable shortcomings, such as the "annoying" German accent in the English text presentation and the dreary monotony of the overall program, in which there is hardly any recognizable title different from the next, angry tongues may utter the word `` amateurish '' or `` would like '' to let. The portal rated the design of the DVD as "loving".

Charts and sales

Until today the album could not place in any official charts. Exact sales figures are also not known.
