The district of Hungen was a district in the province of Upper Hesse in the Grand Duchy of Hesse with its seat in Hungen . It existed from 1841 to 1848. The former district area today belongs to the district of Gießen in Hesse or the Wetterau district and three communities to the Vogelsberg district .

history

The district of Hungen emerged in 1841 from the district of Hungen . When the Grand Duchy of Hesse was divided into administrative districts in 1848, the Hungen district was dissolved and incorporated into the Friedberg district. In the course of a new administrative reform in 1852, the administrative districts were dissolved again. Hungen County was not rebuilt; his former communities were assigned to the districts of Nidda , Gießen and Friedberg .

In total, the district of Hungen consisted of 41 municipalities, five of which had city ​​rights :

Hungen, Laubach and Lich were the seats of regional courts , with 20 municipalities belonging to the Hungen regional court, 13 to the Laubach regional court and 8 municipalities to the Lich regional court . Ludwig Follenius was the district councilor of the Hungen district .

In 1848 the Association for German Statistics recorded 26,615 inhabitants for the district of Hungen, of whom 13,579 were Lutherans , 11,891 Reformed , 1,005 Jews , 129 Catholics and 11 other or non-denominational. Three people were over 90 years old, 22 deaf and dumb , 21 insane and 16 blind . Buildings were counted: 35 churches and chapels, 7 synagogues , 38 school buildings, 114 other public buildings and 4,541 residential buildings. There were 5.8 residents per residential building.

The following animals were recorded: 1,003 horses, 10,198 cattle, 62 donkeys, 16,249 sheep, 1,367 goats and 7,960 pigs.
