architecture
- The spire of St. Mark's Tower in Venice is complemented with a statue of the Archangel Gabriel. The wooden statue is clad with gilded copper sheet.
- The Royal Chapel Capilla Real is completed in Granada .
- The Casa de las Conchas in Salamanca , built in the Plateresque style , will be completed after around 14 years of construction.
sculpture
After ten years of work with gilding, the workshop of Paul von Leutschau completes the Gothic high altar in the Church of St. Jakob in Levoča , the highest wood-carved altar in the world. The depictions of the Passion in the polyptych are based on Lucas Cranach's prints of the Passion, which were published in 1509. The figures of the twelve apostles on the altar structure are dated to around 1390 and may have been part of an earlier altar in the church.
Woodcut
The Theuerdank work commissioned by Emperor Maximilian I is printed in Nuremberg. In the lavishly designed printed work, the fictional bridal journey of the knight Thewrdanck to Fräulein Ernreich is described in verse, which is probably Maximilian's journey to his bride Maria of Burgundy in 1478 . The print contains 118 colored woodcuts , for which leading artists, Hans Schäufelin , Hans Burgkmair and Leonhard Beck , provided drawings that were cut in wood by Jost de Negker . The woodcuts show extraordinary refinement in terms of drawing and cutting technique. The variability to represent plasticity and spatiality by means of the lines is considered new and underlines Maximilian's endeavor to advance the development and perfection of book and illustration art.
