Kyle Charles Calder (born January 5, 1979 in Mannville , Alberta ) is a retired Canadian ice hockey player who played 608 games for the Chicago Blackhawks , Philadelphia Flyers , Detroit Red Wings , Los Angeles Kings and among others between 1995 and 2012 Anaheim Ducks has played in the National Hockey League on the position of left winger . Calder celebrated his greatest career success in the jersey of the Canadian national team by winning the gold medal at the 2002 World Cup .
Career
Kyle Calder began his career in 1995 in the Canadian Junior Western Hockey League with the Regina Pats , but could not convince in his first year. In his second season he played stronger and was selected by the Chicago Blackhawks in the 1997 NHL Entry Draft in the fifth round at position 130. He stayed two more years in the WHL and was able to increase his points yield from year to year. During the 1998/99 season he moved to the Kamloops Blazers within the WHL .
In summer 1999, he received his first professional contract and joined the Cleveland Lumberjacks at which time the IHL - farm team of the Chicago Blackhawks were. He was appointed to the NHL squad for eight games in 1999/2000 and scored his first goal during that time. He spent most of the 2000/01 season in the NHL, but also played for the AHL farm team Norfolk Admirals . From the fall of 2001 he was an integral part of the Chicago Blackhawks. While the NHL season 2004/05 was canceled because of the lockout , he joined Södertälje SK from the Swedish Elitserien .
The 2005/06 season was his most successful season with 26 goals and 33 assists . His contract was extended by the Blackhawks in the summer of 2006 for a year, but he was transferred to the Philadelphia Flyers before the start of the season . Philadelphia had a miserable 2006/07 season and Kyle Calder also lost the performance from the previous year. In February 2007 he was transferred back to the Chicago Blackhawks for Lasse Kukkonen and a third-round draft pick, but they only sent him to the Detroit Red Wings a few hours later for Jason Williams . In the remaining games of the regular season he was able to convince with good performances, but in the playoffs he contributed only one assist in 13 games and was even deleted from the squad.
In the summer of 2007 he received a new contract with the Los Angeles Kings , for which he was in action over the next two years. In October 2009, Calder was signed by the Anaheim Ducks , with whom he signed a contract until the end of June 2010. The left shooter spent most of the following season with the Toronto Marlies in the AHL, for the Ducks he was in 14 games and scored two points. In the summer of 2010, his expiring contract in Anaheim was not extended.
In October 2010, Calder signed a contract with the Bakersfield Condors in the ECHL . After five games and seven points for the Condors, he was committed in January 2011 by Barys Astana from the Continental Hockey League . In May of the same year, his contract with Barys was canceled. In the following season, the Canadian was mostly without a contract, before he again entered into a contractual relationship with the Bakersfield Condors from the ECHL in February 2012. After the season he ended his active career in the summer of 2012 at the age of 33.
International
Calder represented his home country at the U20 World Junior Championships in 1999 and the 2002 , 2003 and 2006 World Championships . At the U20 World Junior Championship in 1999, he scored two goals and six assists. In the final he lost to Canada against Russia and won the silver medal. At the 2003 World Cup, the winger contributed two points for Canada to win the World Cup.
