Lana Kos (* 1984 in Varaždin , SFR Yugoslavia ) is a Croatian opera singer with a soprano voice .

Lana Kos was born in 1984 in the northern Croatian city of Varaždin in what was then SFR Yugoslavia. She began her musical education at a young age, which she continued at the Muzička akademija Sveučilišta u Zagrebu , the music academy of the University of Zagreb . Specifically, she was trained by Lyudmila Ivanova . Already at the age of 17, she made her debut in April 2002 as Queen of the Night in The Magic Flute at the Croatian National Theater in Zagreb and soon afterwards sang this role at the Slovenian National Theater in Ljubljana . With the special timbre and her three-octave voice, as well as the lightness and sovereignty of her singing, she soon showed her great potential and was immediately committed to the Bavarian State Opera as a permanent engagement for four years after completing her studies . When she signed up in 2006, she was one of the youngest soloists in the history of the opera house. Before that, she selected Mstislav Leopoldowitsch Rostropovich for his staging of Prokofiev's War and Peace for the solo role of Natascha Rostova in the Moscow Bolshoi Theater . In April 2010 Kos appeared in the title role of Lucia in Lucia di Lammermoor by Gaetano Donizetti at the Croatian National Theater "Ivan Zajc" in Rijeka . For her role in the play, in which Nikša Bareza appeared as conductor and Damir Zlatar Frey as director, Kos received an award from the Croatian National Theater. She experienced her real international breakthrough in 2011 when she performed, among other things, Violetta Valéry, who she had already played, at the Arena di Verona Festival . Here she not only worked with the conductor Carlo Rizzi , but also with the Argentine director and costume designer Hugo de Ana , with whom she had already worked on her first performance of Violetta Valéry in Maribor . In February 2012 a new production of La traviata took place under the conductor Bruno Bartoletti and the director Henning Brockhaus , in which she appeared again as Violetta Valéry. Two months later she was seen again as Queen of the Night in The Magic Flute at the Croatian National Theater in Zagreb, where she made her debut at the age of 17. In July 2012 she took on the role of Micaela in a new production of Georges Bizet's Carmen at the Israeli Opera on Masada . A month later she performed with the Ensemble di Verona at concerts in Nuremberg and Munich and was also involved in the big concert in Macerata on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the death of Mario Del Monaco . In October 2012, Del Monaco's son Giancarlo , with whom she was in a relationship, performed as Manon in Puccini's Manon Lescaut at the Greek National Opera in Athens .

In 2013 she had engagements at the National Center for the Performing Arts in Beijing , where she appeared in the role of Desdemona in Verdi's Otello , and a month later again as Violetta Valéry in Tel Aviv. In the summer of 2013 she played this character again at the Arena di Verona Festival; this time with conductor Andrea Batisttoni and again with director Hugo de Ana. She sang the same role in a production at the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden in London in the early autumn , with Daniel Oren as a director; as well as in Guangzhou in China . As part of the new production of Verdi's Otello , Kos played the role of Desdemona in performances in Palermo and made her role debut in the title role in Verdi's Luisa Miller in Lausanne . This year she also appeared for the first time in front of a Brazilian audience as Micaela in Carmen . For the third year in a row she performed at the Arena di Verona Festival in Verona; this year at the side of the tenor Vittorio Grigolo in Gounod's Roméo et Juliette . She played one more time at the Beijing National Center for the Performing Arts, where she was seen again in the role of Desdemona. Together with the baritone Željko Lučić , she also played at the closing ceremonies of the Dubrovnik Summer Festival on August 25, 2014 in Dubrovnik .

After appearances as Desdemona São Paulo in 2015, guest engagements followed this year in La traviata at the Royal Opera in Stockholm , as Rosina in Il barbiere di Siviglia at the Avenches Opéra Festival , as Musetta in La Bohème in Palermo, and as Mimì in La Bohème at the Naples Opera in Florida . She also mimed Donna Anna in Don Giovanni in Beijing and made her debut as Amelia in Verdi's Simon Boccanegra at performances in Tuscany . In 2016 she sang the role of Elvira in Verdi's Ernani at the Croatian National Theater in Split and played Luisa Miller again in the play of the same name at the Teatro Real in Madrid , where she appeared alongside the baritone Leo Nucci and James Conlon as conductor. In May 2016 she performed Mimì at the Teatro Giuseppe Verdi in Trieste and was seen in the summer months as Violetta Valéry at the Teatro Lirico di Cagliari . The following year 2017 she made her debut as Marguerite in Gounod's Faust at the Vilnius City Opera in Lithuania and also made her debut as Liù in Puccini's Turandot (Puccini) on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the Macao International Music Festival .

In the 2017/18 season she made her debut as Leonora in Verdi's Il trovatore at the Seoul Arts Center and also played this role in 15 appearances at the Graz Opera . In March 2018 she made her debut in Verdi's Messa da Requiem and a month later as Elisabetta in Verdi's Don Carlos .
