Geographical location

Lelbach is located in the western part of North Hesse on the Waldecker Tafel . It is located directly on the eastern edge of the Diemelsee nature park, around 4 km (as the crow flies ) northwest of the center of the Korbach town center. The Homberg ( 531  m ) rises north of the 425  m high village , and the Kuhbach, which runs through Korbach, flows between the two in a north-west-south-east direction .

Lelbach is on the Rhena –Korbach section of the federal road 251 , from which the district road  58 branches off to Lengefeld . The railway line Wabern – Brilon-Wald ( Uplandbahn ) with the nearby “Rhena-Lelbach” stop runs through it to the west of the village.

history

In 980 Lelbach was first mentioned as Lellibechi in a document. This document is an exchange contract between Emperor Otto II and the abbot of the Corvey Empire . The emperor received the brands Meginrichesdorf and Memleben and gave in return from the imperial property in Ittergau : Lellibechi (Lelbach), Reho ( Rhena ) and Curbechi ( Korbach ) as well as three other localities that later became deserted .

On October 1, 1971, the previously independent municipality of Lelbach was incorporated into the district town of Korbach as part of the regional reform in Hesse . The municipality of Lelbach had a district area of 5.15 km².

church

Lelbach village church

The Romanesque church was first mentioned in a document in 1229. It was dedicated as a chapel to St. Nicholas . The bell was cast around 1298 and is one of the oldest in the Waldecker Land. The brickwork in the north and south, the triumphal arch and a window on the south side date from the time it was built. Inside, mighty wall templates indicate a former vault. The church ruler's bench with inscriptions from the 17th century has been preserved. The organ dates from 1890 and is one of the few surviving instruments that the Vogt company built in the Waldecker Land at that time. In 1979 the church was extensively renovated.
