Libuš is a district on the southern edge of the Czech capital Prague . It belongs to the 12th district and is composed of the two cadastral communities Libuš (German Libusch ) and Písnice ( Piesnitz ). Part of the Modřany Gorge lies in Libuš .

history

The name of the place is Libuš Folk etymology incorrectly to the legendary Princess Libuse returned. In the 18th century, Libuš consisted of only 8 houses. Goose breeding led to an increase in population in the 19th century. In 1933 Kunratice was split off and became a municipality, which was incorporated into Prague in 1968. In 1974 Písnice came to Prague and was assigned to the Libuš district.

The observatory of the Czech Hydrometeorological Institute ( Český hydrometeorologický ústav ) is located in Libuš .
