Linet Chepkwemoi Masai (born December 5, 1989 in Kapsokwony , Mount Elgon District , Western Province ) is a Kenyan long-distance runner .

Encouraged by the success of her brother Moses Ndiema Masai , who won two gold medals at the African junior championships in 2005, she began serious running training that same year.

In her first international competition, the junior women’s race at the 2007 World Cross Country Championships in Mombasa, she won gold straight away. At the World Athletics Finals of the same year she was fourth in both the 5000 and 10,000 meters .

At the Cross Country World Championships in Edinburgh in 2008 , she started in the adult race and won bronze (silver in the team classification). On the other hand, at the Olympic Games in Beijing in 2008 , she narrowly missed a medal in fourth place in the 10,000 meter run despite a personal best of 30: 26.50 min. The following year she was able to secure the silver medal at the Cross Country World Championships in Amman. There she also won the team competition with Kenya, which the Ethiopians had won seven years in a row.

Masai achieved her greatest success so far by winning the gold medal over 10,000 meters at the 2009 World Athletics Championships in Berlin. In the last 100 meters she moved from fourth to first place and beat the Ethiopian Meselech Melkamu , who already believed she was victorious, by a tenth of a second with a time of 30: 51.24 minutes . A month later, she and her brother won ten miles at Dam tot Damloop .

In 2010 she again won the silver medal at the World Cross Country Championships in Bydgoszcz and won the New York Mini 10K . The following year, a silver medal at the Cross Country World Championships in Punta Umbría, a title defense at the New York Mini 10K and a bronze medal at the World Championships in Daegu over 10,000 meters.

In 2012 she finished third in the World's Best 10K and won the Great Manchester Run .
