List of universities and colleges in Slovenia

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is a list of universities and colleges in Slovenia :

introduction

The Slovenian higher education system consists of

  • three state universities (Ljubljana, Maribor, Primorska)
  • three private universities (Nova Gorica, Nova Univerza, Univerza v Novem mestu)
  • a university sponsored by an international organization, the Union for the Mediterranean
  • a public independent university institute
  • 40 private universities (some with faculty status, most with Visoka Šola status).

Universities (according to Slovenian law, a university must have at least three faculties) and independent faculties are entitled to offer study programs at all three Bologna levels (bachelor, master, doctorate). A Visoka Šola, on the other hand, is limited to Bachelor and, in some cases, Master’s courses.

The courses are accredited by the Slovenian Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (Slovenian: Nacionalna agencija Republike Slovenje za kakovost v visokem šolstvu / NAKVIS). Some courses at private universities are licensed by the state, i. H. the state provides financial resources for the implementation of these courses.

In the 2016/2017 academic year, a total of 68,579 people studied at Slovenian universities, 59,705 at state universities and 8,874 at private universities and colleges.

After the founding of Nova Univerza , also in Nova Gorica , initially failed in 2008, the university was founded through the merger of two previously independent faculties ( Europska pravna fakulteta in Nova Gorica and Faketa za državne in evropske študije in Kranj ) and the establishment of the faculty za slovenske in mednarodne študije , also in Kranj, and their accreditation finally recognized after lengthy legal and political disputes and accredited in 2017. The rector of Nova Univerza is the former Slovenian Foreign Minister Dimitrij Rupel .

Another private foundation was the Univerza v Novem mestu in Novo mesto, which domiciled by the merger of four already been in Novo mesto, but independent faculties Fakulteta za upravljanje, Poslovanje in informatiko , Fakulteta za poslovne in upravne vede , Fakulteta za tehnologije in sisteme and Faketa za zdravstvene vede and was accredited in September 2017.
