List of traditional Islamic educational institutions
This is a list of traditional Islamic educational institutions . It includes important religious and social institutions such as mosques , theological teaching centers ( madaris ), universities, the Beit-ul Hikmah (houses of wisdom), libraries and hospitals ( bimārestān ), but in particular mosques (as a teaching center), the madares and libraries. Even after the establishment of independent theology centers, the mosques retained their functionality for teaching and educational issues. A madrasa (plural: madaris) is a center for teaching and education. Public libraries were called "Dar al-'Ilm" ("House of Knowledge"). Independent libraries were called Dar al-'Ilm (House of Knowledge) or Dar al-Kutub (House of Books) or Chazanat al-Hikma (Treasury of Wisdom).
