List of chapels in the Tannheimer Tal

The list of chapels in the Tannheimer Tal contains the most important chapels and churches in the communities of Grän , Nesselwängle , Schattwald , Tannheim and Zöblen in the Tannheimer Tal in the Reutte district in Tyrol , regardless of whether they are listed or not. In addition, the chapels in Gaicht (municipality Weißenbach am Lech ) and Jungholz , which can be counted as part of the Tannheimer Tal region, are also taken into account.

The Tannheimer Tal has more than 30 chapels, which were built due to the great distances from the individual hamlets to the parish churches. Individual chapels in the hamlets are privately owned, they were mostly built on the basis of a vow . Listed objects are identified with the corresponding object ID .

The parish church of St. Wendelin was built in 1789 under Michael Zobl from Grän, a chapel dedicated to St. Wendelin has existed since 1459. In the 17th and 18th centuries, St. Wendelin was known as a pilgrimage church (to prevent cattle epidemics). In 1976 the exterior facade of the church was renovated, and in 1989 the interior of the church was also renovated.

DS - The Michaelskapelle has been proven to have existed since 1695. The furnishings include Rocailles stucco from around 1760, the altar from the 17th century. with a picture of the Archangel Michael by Rudolf Rief from Tannheim (1946).

DS - The parish church of Jungholz, built in 1714, was expanded between 1739 and 1743. The church has a ceiling fresco " Maria als Gnadenspenderin " from 1781. In 1788 the church was consecrated by the Augsburg prince-bishop Clemens Wenzeslaus . The church was renovated in 1994/95.

DS - In Nesselwängle there was a chaplaincy with its own pastor since 1506 , since 1891 the place has been an independent parish. The first small church was destroyed by a snow avalanche in the 18th century. The successor building at the current location was badly damaged by a major fire in 1882; the re-consecration after the renovation took place in 1885. The tower with the "framed" corners on the upper floor dates from the end of the 19th century. The last church renovation was completed in 1992.

DS - The Chapel of St. John the Baptist (built 1736/37) is in the Haller district, right next to the street. The high altar was donated in 1641 by the residents of the Haller fraction, the paintings Maria with Child, Johannes von Nepomuk and Johannes the Baptist were created by Toni Kirchmayr from Innsbruck (1958). The statue of St. Sebastian (1640) comes from the old early baroque altar.

DS - The Mariahilf chapel with a bell ridge is at the junction to Rauth, it is privately owned by the Bilgeri family. This chapel is still very often visited by believers seeking consolation and help. The prayer room is furnished with the painting “Maria with Child” by Melchior Paul von Deschwanden (1874).

The old Dreikreuzkapelle stood in the Schmitte faction at the point "near the three thieves " (near the three crosses) on Tannheimer Bundesstrasse 199 and was demolished in summer 2005. The reconstruction (new construction) of the chapel took place in autumn 2006 by the owner at the time, following a vow from the 19th century. The chapel is now privately owned by the Knittel family. The architecture and the location of the chapel have changed, of the old chapel only the crucifix by Nikolaus Babel from Pfronten (1690) is preserved.

DS - The Church of the Most Holy Trinity in the hamlet of Rauth was built in 1726 by the landowners. Rectangular prayer room with 3/8 end and high altar with the painting of the Trinity (around 1680) and the sculptures of St. John the Baptist and St. Sebastian, (from Ulm around 1510), as well as Baroque Stations of the Cross .

The Stanzle-Kirchele (Chapel of St. Mang) is at the end of the village, directly on the way into the Birkental. This brick-built open chapel with a slightly rounded end of the choir contains a small baroque altar with a statue of St. Magnus. This chapel is privately owned by the Erdle family.

As early as 1500 a chapel was called "on the Wies". It was in the 17th century. enlarged and in 1699 to the parish church of St. Wolfgang raised, in 1756 the nave was raised. A fundamental renovation of the church took place in 1985/89, the original neo-Romanesque style of the church was restored. The equipment includes a dance of death on 12 panels by Anton Falger.

The way chapel is on the federal highway 199 in the direction of Oberjoch . It was built by the hamlet of Wies in 1868 as a result of a pledge. The chapel has a bell ridge. The interior with a round apse has a pointed barrel vault. The neo-Gothic altar contains a crucifixion group, a burial place and the sculptures of St. Wendelin and St. Isidore (from the 18th century).

DS - The parish church of St. Nikolaus in Tannheim (Höf) was completely renovated for the 270th anniversary. It is the second largest village church in Tyrol with a full spoonbill peal . It was built in the Gothic style, with a cross-shaped floor plan of Innsbruck Cathedral with a nave, two small transepts and five altars. The church is about 50 meters long with the porch.

DS - The Mariahilf Chapel was built in 1649 (because of the occurrence of the "black plague " in 1635), but was only consecrated with the high altar in 1685. The chapel has a clapboard-covered onion dome. The furnishing of the spacious interior dates from around 1680.

DS - The construction of the chapel (1680–1700) goes back to the vow of two women who were spared from the plague. The small chapel has a flat-roofed prayer room with a round apse and turret as well as an altar painting of the Coronation of the Virgin Mary from the 19th century, the last renovation was in 1989.

DS - The Chapel of St. Martin in the hamlet of Innergschwend was first mentioned in 1494. The original Gothic building was converted to Baroque style in 1685/86, and the church was consecrated in 1725 by the Augsburg auxiliary bishop. The rocaille cartouche above the choir arch (in rococo style around 1760) is decorated with the attributes of St. Martin decorated.

The Lourdes Chapel with a replica of the "Lourdes Grotto" stands south of Tannheim on a wooded hill. It was built in the neo-Gothic style on the occasion of the silver jubilee of pastor Anton Zoller in 1902 and decorated by Anton Peterlunger with pictures from the Lauretan litany .

The Chapel of the Visitation of the Virgin Mary in Gaicht with a stitch cap vault , saddle roof and pointed roof turret was built in 1695 instead of a Gothic chapel. The measurement license it received only in 1818. In 1959 was carried out a thorough renovation and the chapel received a new floor and other altars. The last renovation took place in 2015 with the financial support of Ms. Ursula Frischauf-Freudenberg (1929–2016).

The Stegmühlkapelle (Marienkapelle) on Bundesstrasse 199 in Gaicht was built at the expense of the miller Johann Osterried and consecrated in 1889. It is adorned with the altarpiece “Mary of Perpetual Help” without a mass license. It owes its current appearance to the teacher Josef Babl, who came from the Stegmühle.

DS - The chapel on the old Gaichtpassstrasse was built in the Baroque style in 1714 and enlarged and rebuilt in a neo-Gothic style in 1860. The building has a rectangular floor plan and a gable roof with a tower-like, shingled roof turret. There is a Gothic portal on the entrance side. The neo-Gothic altar houses a copy of the miraculous image of Mariahilf .

DS - The Kalvarienberganlage on a hill near Untergaicht consists of an Ölberg grotto , wayside shrines depicting the Stations of the Cross and the Kalvarienberg chapel . The facility was built in 1901. The 14 wayside shrines bear bronze reliefs depicting the Stations of the Cross by G. Ruggeri from the 1980s and in the interior of the Calvary Chapel there is a crucifixion group in front of a painted background.

The Church of St. Josef was built in 1793 and consecrated in 1795. The church was damaged by fire in 1832, but then rebuilt. The interior of the church has a stitch cap vault. Johann Kärle (1887) painted the ceiling frescoes. The Adoration of the Eucharist is depicted in the choir and the Adoration of the Magi in the nave , accompanied by scenes from the life of St. Joseph and the Holy Family . The sculptures of St. Sebastian and St. Isidor were made around 1850. In the vestibule there is a Christ on the scourge column by Johann Sigmund Hitzelberger (around 1765). The stained glass windows in the choir date from 1889.

The Marienkapelle (also known as the Kreuzkapelle “Eisr Hear im Ölend”) contains a crucifixion group and a statue of St. Rochus from around 1680. A statue of St. John comes from the beginning of the 19th century. On the All Souls' picture on the side wall of the chapel, Mary appears as an intercessor, the picture is attributed to Martin Schädle († 1748 in Rome) from Haldensee. The Hörbstwappen is shown below.
