action
Heidi, a former drug addict, works with her colleagues Whitey and Herman as a DJ for a hard rock station. One day she receives a wooden box with an album by the band "The Lords". At home she listens to the album with Whitey. She has visions of women in an uncertain past who worship Satan in a ritual and celebrate the birth of a child. When Whitey turns off the music, the vision breaks off.
The next day, Heidi interviewed Francis Matthias, who was presenting his book on the Salem witch trials. The broadcaster then plays the Lords album, which puts all Salem women in a trance. In the evening, Heidi sits with her landlady Lacy and her sisters Sonny and Megan over a bottle of wine. Megan reads from Heidi's hand that it is her fate to succumb to her darkest sexual desires. Heidi leaves the party distraught. Later she enters the apparently empty neighboring apartment 5 and experiences visions of a demon and a witch.
Worried, Heidi visits a church and falls asleep there. She dreams that she is being attacked by the priestess. Heidi flees the church and meets a ghost who tells her that he's been waiting for her. Meanwhile Matthias is researching the Lords. He discovers notes in a book and asks his wife to play them on her piano, and realizes that they are identical to the album. Matthias finds the author who tells him that in the seventeenth century a Reverend Hawthorne (Andrew Prine) accused a coven of Satan worshipers of creating music to control the women of Salem. As a result, Hawthorne had the women executed. During the execution, the leader Margaret Morgan cursed Salem's wives and Hawthorne's descendants: his bloodline would be "the ship through which the devil child would come to earth". Further research reveals that Heidi is a descendant of Hawthorne.
Meanwhile, Heidi's broadcaster announces that it is giving away tickets for the upcoming Lords of Salem concert and is playing the Lords album again, which is why Heidi again has disturbing visions. She spends the night in Whitey's house, but wakes up in her own apartment. Heidi starts taking drugs again. Under the influence of drugs, Lacy, Sonny and Megan bring Heidi into apartment 5. This now appears as a large opera house with a demon on a throne above a staircase. She approaches him while he screams and hugs her with tentacle-like limbs. She later finds her way back to her bedroom.
The next day, Matthias tries to tell Heidi the truth about the Lords and their story, but Lacy and her sisters kill him. Heidi hears the murder, but does nothing. Later, at the concert, Heidi, Lacy, Sonny, Megan and the ghosts of Margaret and her circle of witches meet for a satanic ritual. The music of the Lords makes the female spectators take off their clothes. In the midst of surreal visions, Heidi gives birth to a strange creature that looks like a crayfish on the bodies of the naked spectator. The next day, Heidi's broadcaster reported on a mass suicide at a rock concert and the disappearance of Heidi.
