The community-free area Mariental is one of five community-free areas in the district of Helmstedt , Lower Saxony . The name of the area is derived from the neighboring municipality of Mariental .

It has an area of ​​15.81 km² and borders clockwise in the south on the community-free area Helmstedt , in the west on the city of Helmstedt and the communities Mariental and Rennau , in the north on the communities Groß Twülpstedt and Querenhorst and in the east on the community Grasleben in the same county. In the east there is also a border with the Börde district in Saxony-Anhalt . In addition to a larger part, the area also includes two exclaves west of the municipality of Mariental. As a result, the municipality of Mariental is almost completely enclosed by the municipality-free area of ​​the same name.

The community-free area is uninhabited. For statistical reasons, however, it has the official municipality key 03 1 54 504.
