coat of arms
The coat of arms was designed by the Brunswick heraldist Arnold Rabbow and was accepted by the local council on July 19, 2001.
Blazon : "In a wave cut split by blue and gold , topped with two sugar beets in mixed colors." | |
Justification for the coat of arms: The two sugar beets in confused colors emphasize the double meaning for the place. Not only their cultivation was and still is an important economic factor, but also processing and propagation. The local sugar factory operated from 1850 to 1957, and a beet juice factory from 1886 to 1953. In their place has now come the production of seeds , which are exported all over the world. The split in the waves symbolizes Söllingen as a centuries-old border town. The water-rich Große Bruch forms a natural border. The Duchy of Braunschweig used to border the Prince Diocese of Halberstadt , then Brandenburg and Prussia. The Braunschweig national colors blue and yellow commemorate the historical affiliation of Söllingen to the state of Braunschweig. |
Economy and Infrastructure
Söllingen is located directly on the federal highway 244 , which leads from Helmstedt to Wernigerode . Until December 2007, the community had a stop on the Jerxheim – Helmstedt railway line .
