Markus Wieland (born May 26, 1976 in Tegernsee ) is a former German ice hockey player and today's coach, who was under contract in his last season as a professional at EHC Munich in the 2nd Bundesliga ice hockey .

Player career

The 1.80 m tall defender went through all the junior teams at his hometown club TEV Miesbach before starting his professional career at SB Rosenheim , for their DEL team, the Starbulls Rosenheim , he was also on the ice after the new highest German professional game class was founded in 1994 was standing. For the 1996/97 season , the right-handed player moved to league competitor EV Landshut , for which he played 134 season games until 1999 . After a one-year engagement with the reigning German champions Adler Mannheim , Wieland moved to the 2nd division at EC Bad Tölz . Via ERC Ingolstadt , the defensive man came to SC Bietigheim-Bissingen for the 2002/03 season , with whom he narrowly missed promotion to the DEL twice.

For the 2007/08 season Wieland signed a contract with EHC Munich , but only played 19 season games before he had to end the season prematurely due to a serious knee injury. Wieland did not recover from this injury and he was threatened with sports disability .

In the 2009/2010 and 2010/2011 seasons he was coach of the ice hockey Bayern league team TEV Miesbach .

On November 3, 2009 Wieland gave his farewell game in the Miesbach ice rink. The team of TEV Miesbach, which is coached by him, met a team of companions, contemporaries and well-known local players. Among others, Max Ostermeier , Florian Busch , Markus Busch , Matthias Hart and Florian Zeller ran for the selection team “Blosä & Friends” , which defeated TEV Miesbach 13: 8.

International

In 1993, 1994 and 1995 Wieland was part of the German junior national team for the European Junior Cup and World Junior Cup.

Markus Wieland played for the German national ice hockey team in the 1995 , 1996 and 1997 world championships , and was on the ice for Germany at the 1996 World Cup of Hockey and the 1998 Olympic Games in Nagano .
