Mattias Lindström (born April 18, 1980 ) is a Swedish football player . The midfielder , who became Swedish champions in 1999 and has played part of his career in Denmark and Austria, made his debut for the Swedish national team in 2003 .

Career

Career start in Sweden

Lindström joined Helsingborgs IF when he was ten . He made his debut for the club in 1997 in the Allsvenskan . At the side of Erik Edman , Sven Andersson , Marcus Lantz , Rade Prica and Arild Stavrum , he won the Von Rosens Cup for the Swedish championship title with the team in the 1999 season. From the 2001 season he was finally able to establish himself in the regular formation of the club. After he had already run through some of the Swedish Association's youth teams, Lindström made his debut in the King's Cup on February 18, 2003 in a 1-1 draw against North Korea in the senior team's jersey. During the tournament he played against Thailand and in the 4-0 final victory over North Korea - it was his only games in the national team.

At the side of players like Erik Wahlstedt , Álvaro Santos and Andreas Dahl , Lindström was a regular for the Helsingborg club in the following years. In 2004 he left the club on a free transfer as his contract expired.

Years abroad

The Danish club Aalborg BK became Lindström's new employer . In the second half of the 2004/05 Superliga season , he was used as a regular in 15 games and scored five goals. With Rasmus Würtz , Martin Ericsson , Marco Reda and Michael Jakobsen , he finished fourth in the table at the end of the season. In the following years he was one of the regular players for a long time. In the Superliga season 2006/07 he contributed in 31 league games with three goals this season to achieve third place, which meant qualifying for the 2007 UEFA Intertoto Cup . Via the “Strohhalm-Cup” he moved into the qualifying round of the 2007/08 UEFA Cup with the team as one of the three representatives of Northern Europe . After successes over HJK Helsinki and Sampdoria Genua , he moved into the group stage with the club, where he failed with the club behind FC Getafe , Tottenham Hotspur and RSC Anderlecht in fourth place.

Lindström left Denmark in January 2008. From then on, the Swedish midfielder was under contract with FC Wacker Innsbruck . At the side of Andreas Hölzl , Matthias Hattenberger and Željko Pavlović , he strengthened the Bundesliga club in the relegation battle. After 13 games in which he was without a goal, he had to accept relegation as bottom of the table.

After the club's relegation, Lindström moved to SV Mattersburg for the 2008/09 season within the Bundesliga . At his new club, however, Lindström could not convince permanently and found himself as a substitute on the bench. After twenty league appearances for the team from Burgenland , he decided in mid-March 2009 to return to Sweden.

Return to Sweden

Shortly before the start of the Allsvenskan season in 2009 , Lindström joined the Gothenburg club GAIS . On his league debut for the new club, he shone in a 5-1 away win against local rivals Örgryte IS as a two-time goalscorer and subsequently became a regular under the newly signed coach Alexander Axén . At the side of Björn Andersson , Wanderson do Carmo , Tommy Lycén and Dime Jankulovski , he achieved relegation with the club.

After a season, Lindström moved on within the Allsvenskan. New club was his first professional station Helsingborgs IF, with which he signed a three-year contract.
