Mellnitz is a district of the city of Jessen (Elster) in the Wittenberg district of Saxony-Anhalt . The predominantly agricultural place with its 56 inhabitants is one of the smallest places in the district. The village has a volunteer fire brigade .

Mellnitz is located approx. 15 km north of the city of Jessen and is connected to it via the B187 , L37 and L39.

Mellnitz was first mentioned as a settlement on November 14, 1385 in documents.

church

The 11th century church in the village was closed from 1978 to 1985 due to the risk of collapse. In 1985, after extensive renovation, it was reopened to the public in time for the site's 600th anniversary.
