After Cuatro Vientos, it is one of the oldest airfields in Spain and during the Spanish Civil War it was an important point of action for the republican air force. The commanding officer was the Republican Aviation Minister Hildago de Cisneros.
After the civil war, CASA built 170 Junkers Ju 52 / 3m under license from 1944 in its rebuilt and expanded Getafe plant .

Components of civil Airbus models, such as horizontal stabilizers , are manufactured by the (civil) company Airbus. They are also transported to other Airbus locations with Belugas .
