Monarch was a Canadian car brand owned by the Ford Motor Company of Canada from Oakville .

description

Ford used the brand exclusively in Canada from 1946 to 1957 and from 1958 to 1961.

In order to give the local Ford dealers the opportunity to also offer more expensive models, Ford Canada launched the Monarch brand in 1946, which is sold through these dealers. These cars were Mercury cars, which usually had Ford-specific chrome trim and design elements in the style of the brand. Conversely, the local Mercury dealers from 1948 to 1961 also sold modified Ford models under the Meteor brand .

The Monarch did not exist in 1957/58 because the new Edsel was offered in this price range . However, the failure of the Edsel prompted Ford to take the Monarch back into the program after just one year. In 1961 the monarch was then given up, this time for good. From now on, its market segment was to be covered by the Ford Galaxie .

From 1946 to 1961, a total of 95,421 monarchs were created. The name was later picked up by Mercury in the US, see Mercury Monarch .
