Music for Relief

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Music for Relief is a non-profit aid organization founded by the American band Linkin Park , which has been operating under the umbrella of the American charity Entertainment Industry Foundation since March 2018. The aim is to provide financial support for humanitarian reconstruction aid after natural disasters and to promote environmental protection programs, in particular reforestation, and to educate the public about the ecological consequences of global climate change . Music for Relief works on a project basis with international and local aid organizations.

founding

Music for Relief was founded in 2005 after the earthquake and the devastating tsunamis on the coasts of the Indian Ocean . The idea was to set up a donation organization made up of fans, musicians and members of the music industry in order to provide financial support to people in need after natural disasters through the local aid organizations. Chester Bennington , under the influence of the devastating tsunamis and the ensuing humanitarian disaster, laid out the special responsibility of musicians to help. They owe their privileged lives to the support of the fans and are obliged to give something back. Music for Relief received their first $ 100,000 donation from Linkin Park, but they wanted to make a bigger contribution. Dave Farrell explains, "We saw the devastation and thought that maybe we could mobilize not just our fans, but the entire music industry." The call for online donations, benefit concerts and concert ticket proceeds raised $ 3 million in donations.

structure

The Board of Directors of Music for Relief consisted of the band members from Linkin Park until March 2018. Brad Delson was chairman , Rob Bourdon was in charge of finances, and Whitney Showler was general secretary. The organization's advisory board comprised over 20 people from business and the music industry, supplemented by artists such as Julian Lennon , media representatives from Thomson Reuters and donation organizations such as the charity network of the US billionaire Todd Wagner. The organization was based in Los Angeles .

Over 40 musicians of every genre - from Celine Dion to Korn , from Jay-Z to REM and Steve Aoki - regularly participate in the organization's fundraising activities . Mike Shinoda explains: "Music for Relief is not Linkin Park for Relief". Occasional cooperations exist with companies. Apple , Heineken , Lufthansa , FC Bayern Munich and BMI donated, among other things , for the 10th anniversary of the organization as part of the Relief LIVE campaign .

The organization's activities and the donations made through fundraising programs were published annually in a report.

Since March 2018, Musik for Relief has been operating under the umbrella of the Entertainment Industry Foundation, which continues to realize the original objective.

aims

The goals of the organization, which raised eight million US dollars by 2015 and with whose support over 1.3 million trees were planted worldwide, are:

  1. Providing immediate and long-term support to natural disaster survivors
  2. Protecting and restoring the environment as a means of reducing the risk of natural disasters and educating and raising public awareness of the issue
  3. Promoting partnerships between the music world, the entertainment industry and humanitarian aid organizations

Music for Relief works on a project basis in accordance with its donation programs for disaster relief and environmental protection with various international aid organizations.
