NGC 5263 is a 13.4 likes bright spiral galaxy of Hubble type Sc in the constellation of hunting dogs . It is about 218 million light years from the Milky Way .
The object was discovered on April 11, 1785 by Wilhelm Herschel with an 18.7-inch reflector telescope, who described it as "vF, S, much extended nearly in the meridian".
