NGC 5290 is a 12.1 mag bright spiral Seyfert galaxy (type 2) of the Hubble type Sbc in the constellation of the Hounds and 118 million light years from the Milky Way.
It was discovered on March 18, 1787 by Wilhelm Herschel with an 18.7-inch reflector telescope, who marked it with “cB, elongated nearly in parallel, small nucleus in the middle; 2 ′ long “.
