NGC 5298 is a 13.1 mag light barred spiral galaxy of the Hubble type SBb in the constellation Centaur and about 189 million light years from the Milky Way.
It was discovered on March 30, 1835 by John Herschel with an 18-inch reflector telescope, which noted "F, R, gbM, 30 arcseconds".
