NGC 5296 is a 14.4 likes bright lenticular galaxy of Hubble type S0-a in the constellation of hunting dogs . It is in gravitational interaction with NGC 5297, which is an estimated 105 million light years from the Milky Way .
The object was discovered on May 3, 1850 by George Johnstone Stoney while he was an assistant professor at the observatory of William Parsons using his telescope Leviathan .
