NGC 5297 is an 11.7 mag barred spiral galaxy of the Hubble type SBc in the constellation Hounds , about 112 million light years from the Milky Way and in gravitational interaction with NGC 5296 .
The object was discovered on April 9, 1787 by Wilhelm Herschel with an 18.7-inch reflector telescope, who described it as "cB, mE 60 degrees np-sf, vsBM".
