NGC 5289 is a 12.9 likes bright barred spiral galaxy of Hubble type SBab in the constellation hunting dogs and 116 million light-years from the Milky Way center.
It was discovered on April 9, 1787 by Wilhelm Herschel with an 18.7-inch reflector telescope, who described it as "F, E in the parallel, miniature of I.170".
