NGC 5643 is a barred spiral galaxy with an active galaxy core of the Hubble type SAB (rs) c in the constellation Wolf in the southern sky . It is an estimated 48 million light years away from the Milky Way , has a disk diameter of about 83,000 ly, and is classified as a Seyfert-2 galaxy .
The object was discovered by John Herschel on June 1, 1834 .
