NGC 5661 is a 13.4 mag barred spiral galaxy of the Hubble type SBb in the constellation Virgo and about 105 million light years from the Milky Way.
It was discovered on May 12, 1793 by Wilhelm Herschel with an 18.7-inch reflector telescope, who described it as "F, S, E nearly in parallel".
