NGC 5636 is a 13.2 mag bright, lens-shaped galaxy of the Hubble-type SB0-a in the constellation of Virgo and about 78 million light-years from the Milky Way.
It has a strong interaction with NGC 5638 and was discovered together with it on April 30, 1786 by Wilhelm Herschel with an 18.7-inch reflector telescope, who called it “Two. The southern [NGC 5638] pB, pL, R, gbM. The northern [NGC 5636] eF, cL, distance 2 ′ “.
