NGC 7690 is a spiral galaxy with extensive star formation regions of the Hubble type Sb in the constellation Phoenix in the southern sky . It is an estimated 65 million light years from the Milky Way and about 40,000 light years in diameter.
The object was discovered on October 3, 1834 by the astronomer John Herschel with his 18.7 inch reflector telescope and was later included in his New General Catalog by Johan Dreyer .
