NGC 7714 is an active barred spiral galaxy with extensive star formation from Hubble type SBCD in the constellation Pisces on the ecliptic . It is around 130 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of around 70,000 light years and 90,000 light years on the extended spiral arms .

The galaxy, together with NGC 7715, forms an interacting galaxy pair known as Arp 284 . As a result of the interaction, NGC 7714 has a strongly distorted spiral that forms a kind of bridge between the two galaxies. This ensures that gas flows from the smaller galaxy into the galaxy NGC 7714, which leads to a high rate of star formation . Halton Arp organized his catalog of unusual galaxies into groups according to purely morphological criteria. This galaxy pair belongs to the class double galaxies with inflow and attraction .

The Type Ib supernovae 1999dn (September 19, 1999) and SN 2007fo were observed here.

The object was discovered on September 18, 1830 by John Herschel .
