NGC 7697 = IC 5333 is a spiral galaxy of the Hubble type Sb in the constellation Toucan in the southern sky . It is estimated to be 85 million light-years from the Milky Way and about 40,000 light-years across.

The object was discovered by John Herschel on September 6, 1836 .
