A little later he learns from the police who have arrived that the money now missing came from a criminal business. Heinrich gives up his plan to return the money immediately when the police suspect that an accomplice of the dead man fled with the money. On the same night Heinrich takes the attractive hitchhiker Inge Hoffmann with him. Inge begins to flirt with the married Heinrich, but he remains steadfast at first. A few days later he meets Inge again. The older man slowly begins a love affair with the young woman. With the stolen money he gives her presents and pays the debts for his truck trailer. In turn, he buys his wife Anna an expensive fur coat and wants to give his daughter a gold watch. In front of the family, he pretends to have won the pool.

Inge leads a double life. In addition to her relationship with Heinrich, she is in a relationship with the petty criminal Kurt, whom she pretends to be her brother in front of Heinrich. Kurt needs a truck to smuggle furs across the border and had instigated Inge to make a truck driver compliant. Kurt begins to blackmail Heinrich. He is shaken and doesn't want his wife to find out about the relationship with Inge. Therefore he makes himself and his truck available for the crime. Reviews

"The timely and time-critical film is realistic, artless and straightforward. Hans Albers takes the opportunity to show the best aspects of his personality and natural talent. "

"A perfectly crafted film with a finger on the pulse, in which Hans Albers shines in one of his best roles."

- Heyne Film Lexicon, 1996

“Straightforwardly direct, emphasizing the balance between action and image dynamics, Jugert staged this truck driver film, which reflected the mood of the beginning economic boom era. In this film, too, the director remained loyal to his striving for time-critical, unvarnished everyday realism. "

- Reclam's Lexicon of German Films, 1995

"A film that honestly tries to create a realistic image of the human being, but that remains on the surface in some of the questions raised."
