The Mühlenfließ-Sägebach nature reserve is a 163.23  hectare nature reserve in Teupitz in the Dahme-Spreewald district in Brandenburg .

Location and history

The nature reserve lies within the boundaries of the Teupitz districts of Tornow and Neuendorf and extends from Teupitzer See in a southerly direction to Tornower See , where it borders on the Briesensee and Klingeberg nature reserve . It was placed under protection on February 13, 1998. The Mittelmühlengraben flows through the area in the western area and the Hohe Mühlengraben in the middle in a south-north direction . The Fuchsgraben runs from the east . Landstrasse 74 crosses the nature reserve and connects the districts of Egsdorf and Neuendorf with the city center.

While the region was essentially formed in the course of the last Ice Age , there are some cold water ponds in the reserve that were artificially created before 1775 for breeding trout . Cold, oxygen-rich spring water fed these ponds and made fish farming possible . After the water was drained off at the beginning of the 20th century, a lime-rich bog was created at the pond edges, which was drained by means of drainage ditches. After the fall of the Wall , the moors lay fallow and silted up. The Teupitz Lake District nature conservation group of NABU has been campaigning for the conservation of fens since May 1990.

Flora and fauna

The aim of the protection is in particular to protect the "location of rare, threatened wild plant communities, in particular the partially existing, largely intact floating leaf communities, alder forests, mixed forests, wet meadows and dry grasslands", as well as the "habitat of animal species threatened by the population, in particular as a breeding and feeding area for numerous small bird species, as a retreat for endangered amphibians and reptiles as well as for aquatic insects and semi-aquatic mammals ”and“ for ecological reasons because of the importance of the area within the framework of the regional river-biotope network and to preserve the ecologically particularly valuable Source area and the upper stream. ”.

The Argentine waterweed and the Callitricho-Batrachion , among others, thrive in the shallow trenches . There the beaver , the otter and the great moss damsel , but also the great fire butterfly, have their habitat. In the lime-rich regions, the open spaces consist of litter meadows , in peaty and silty soils of wet meadows . They alternate with poor, lowland hay meadows and lime-rich fens. Black alder and common ash grow in the damp areas .

Development

The nature reserve can be entered from Landstrasse 74 via the districts of Neuendorf and Tornow. A circular hiking trail leads on a designated route from Briesensee via Neuendorf to Teupitz (yellow circle marked on a white background).
