Location of Neurath in Langenfeld (Rhineland)

Neurath , first mentioned in 904, is the oldest district of Reusrath and Langenfeld (Rhineland)

geography

Gut Widdauen, first mentioned in 1147

Neurath is located in the extreme southwest of the Reusrath district of the city of Langenfeld (Rhineland) . Neurath's western neighbor is Leverkusen 's Voigtslach district , which for centuries until the municipal reform in 1975 belonged to the Reusrath district and thus to Langenfeld. The Rheindorf , which also belongs to Leverkusen, connects to the south . Langenfeld-Mitte is in the north , separated by the A 542 . There is a road connection with Mehlbruch and Gieslenberg as an overpass over the former Cöln-Mindener Railway , which was established in 1845. The western border is formed by the A 59 , over which another overpass leads to Voigtslach. Neurath can only be reached from Rheindorf via unpaved dirt roads. To the north and west of the Widdauen estate , which belongs to Neurath, large groundwater lakes , which were created by gravel and sand extraction , spread out today.

history

Even if finds from earlier epochs , such as the Stone Age , Bronze Age , Iron Age ( Hallstatt and La Tène Period ), could be made in other parts of the urban area, Neurath in the city of Langenfeld (Rhineland) is entitled to this rank for the first time to have been mentioned in a document . In the year 904 Neurath was called "Niuuuenrothe" and thus the time about Langenfeld ended without a written record . This oldest mention of a settlement in Langenfeld is closely related to localities ending in -hoven and -inghoven , which is interpreted as an indication of royal goods existing there. The hamlets of Schelthoven and Stevenshoven in Langenfeld and Schevenshoven in neighboring Hitdorf should be mentioned in this context .

In the certificate issued on August 3, 904, the Frankish king , Ludwig the child , assigned the abbot of Kaiserswerth possessions in Bilk , Himmelgeist , Mettmann and Neurath . This document has still another reason why a special position, because the issuing firm of King Ludwig, a then underaged child, described the ( lay ) -ABT "Cuonrat" Today "Konrad" as a "dear relatives " ( consanguineus ) of the king. If the aforementioned Konrad was a close relative of the king, the thesis of the abrupt end of the rule of the East Franconian Carolingians in 911 would be invalid. Because it became a Konrad, protector of Kaiserswerth after the early death of the young king and his successor .

Another aspect of the legal transaction between relatives, with a minor on the one hand, is also not concealed: That there are therefore assumptions that the law firm had for Ludwig, the child, without his knowledge or through him, his own uncle with strangers Considering land and thus expropriating its rightful owner should not come as a surprise due to the lack of a land register or jurisdiction . With regard to Neurath , such a legal subtlety, from today's point of view , can be left behind. Because the recognized value in terms of dating or in terms of Neurath's existence cannot be denied.

With this document, the excavations at St. Martinus in Richrath and St.Barbara in Reusrath , which have led to the previous result that places with the ending -rath were founded a good 100 years earlier than previously assumed, will also experience one additional support. So far you went namely due to the results of the name of research of creation of the 10th century AD, while one due to the excavation finds this now bring forward the early 9th century needs.

The " Gut Widdauen" was mentioned as early as 1147 , which means it can claim third place among the oldest written records of a property or place in Langenfeld. From this time onwards Neurath or Widdauen are mentioned again and again in documents or tax lists (the latter list the taxes paid on cattle and grain ). Friedhelm Görgens shaking his head in an interview that the 1100-year anniversary of the city was not properly celebrated, but simply slept through, only proves the "lack of history of Langenfeld".

Neurath today

Neurath's terrain is level and is particularly suitable for agriculture and cattle breeding . It is used accordingly for agriculture . More recently, equestrian sports have been added and fishing and diving , windsurfing and sailing are now practiced at the former excavation holes .
