Nicki Sørensen (born May 14, 1975 in Herning ) is a Danish cyclist who was four times Danish champion and won one stage each of the Tour de France and Vuelta a España .
Athletic career
Nicki Sørensen became a contract driver for Team Chicky World in 1999 . After a few victories in smaller races and a stopover at Tem Fakta , he moved to Bjarne Riis' team CSC (now Tinkoff ) in 2001 . With this team he took part in the Tour de France ten times between 2001 and 2012 . He supported his team captains as a helper , such as B. Ivan Basso . His best individual placement was 20th in the 2002 Tour de France . After he achieved a stage win at the Vuelta a España in 2005 , he won the 12th stage of the Tour de France as a soloist on July 16, 2009 after a successful breakaway attempt . He was also able to win the Danish road race championship four times. He took in the years 2000 , 2004 , 2008 and 2012 in the road race of the Summer Olympics in part. His best result in 2008 was 25th place.
In August 2014, Sørensen announced that he would end his active cycling career at the end of the season.
In June 2015, shortly before the anti-doping report was published in Denmark, Sørensen publicly admitted to having doped while cycling. He had fully testified to the ADD about his doping practices that were more than ten years ago. He denied that his then team boss Bjarne Riis was involved. According to Danish media reports, Sørensen is said to have admitted that he also doped during the 2004 Olympic Games.
Professional
In 2015 Nicki Sørensen became the sports director of the Tinkoff-Saxo team . In November 2015 it was announced that he will be the new Sports Director of the Cycling Academy Team in 2016.
