Niederhörlen is the smallest of a total of six districts in the municipality of Steffenberg in the Marburg-Biedenkopf district in central Hesse .

history

The oldest known mention is the name Horla in 1327 and Niederhörlen in 1382 under the name Nedern Horle .

The statistical-topographical-historical description of the Grand Duchy of Hesse reports on Niederhörlen in 1830:

"Niederhörle (L. Bez. Battenberg) evangel. Branch village; is 5 12 St. von Battenberg and belongs to the Baron von Breidenstein. The place has 23 houses and 171 Protestant residents, as well as 1 grinding mill. - Niederhörle, which with Oberhörle (Gladenbach district) bore the name Zweyhorle , was probably an old Hessian fief. "

Is known Niederhörlen for the old half-timbered church , which in the Hessenpark Taunus translocated was. Niederhörlen belonged to the parish of Breidenbach until 1930 . In the chapel itself, the service was only celebrated four times a year to enable the disabled and the sick to attend the service. In 1930 the parish was changed to Oberhörlen .

On April 1, 1972 Niederhörlen was incorporated into the new municipality of Steffenberg.
