history

middle Ages

Steinperf is probably the oldest part of the municipality of Steffenberg . It is believed that settlement began around 500 AD. The Celts are said to have mined iron ores in the vicinity of Steinperf and smelted them into iron that was exported as tools or weapons. The first written mention of Steinperf was - like that of Nieder- and Obereisenhausen - around 1103. With this document the Archbishop of Mainz elevated the chapel, which the Free Megenher had built on his estate "Yzenhusen", to the parish church for Niedereisenhausen, Obereisenhausen and Steinperf (then spelling "Stinpernapho" or "Steinpernfo").

A new chapel was built around 1687. It was built as a half-timbered hall with Hessenmann figures. A renovation took place in 1932. A small extension was added, in which the entrance has been located since then.

Modern times

The statistical-topographical-historical description of the Grand Duchy of Hesse reports on Steinperf in 1830:

"Steinperf (L. Bez. Gladenbach) evangel. Branch village; is on the Perf, 2 12 St. from Gladenbach, and belongs to the Baron von Breidenstein. The place has 43 houses and 318 Protestant residents, as well as 1 chapel and 3 grinding mills. Steinperf occurs in earlier times under the name Stempherphe , and in the 15th century it belonged to the Breidenbacher church area. "

On July 1, 1974, the municipality Steinperf the course was municipal reform in Hesse by state law with the communities Steffenberg and Quotshausen to advanced greater community Steffenberg together .

Steinperf took part several times in the state competition " Our village should be more beautiful " and achieved 2nd place at the state level. The town center with some half-timbered houses was restored through village renovation measures.

Steinperf has a youth tent site that can be used by groups of up to 30 people. Adjacent is the Steinperfer refuge, which is equipped with water, electricity and a kitchen and can be used at events.

coat of arms

The coat of arms was approved on June 26, 1957 by the Hessian Ministry of the Interior.

Coat of arms of Steinperf
Blazon : "A blue sloping bar in gold, covered with a silver, cutlery, red-bound skirt, between two blue wheels."
Justification of the coat of arms: Since the former municipality had no traditional seals or other templates that would be suitable for the formation of a coat of arms, it was necessary to choose a new symbol in order to meet the desire of the place for a coat of arms. The community itself has expressed the wish to include a spinning wheel in their coat of arms. Since this complicated device is not suitable for a true-to-life reproduction in the coat of arms, the usual way in such cases was chosen to include only the most speaking parts of the original in the coat of arms, in this case the two spinning wheels and the skirt . In this way, a heraldic perfect and appealing coat of arms could be formed.

The design of the coat of arms was in the hands of the Bad Nauheim heraldist Heinz Ritt .

Stone processing industry

The stone processing industry was already in place in Steinperf before the Second World War and experienced a new boom after the war. It extracts and processes the raw material diabase , which is mined for split or gravel extraction .
