The Obig den Scharren nature reserve near Peffingen is located in the Eifel district of Bitburg-Prüm in Rhineland-Palatinate .

The 4.7 hectare area, which was placed under nature protection in 1987 , extends southeast of the local community of Peffingen . Not far to the west, the Prüm flows and runs along the L 4 state road .

The protection purpose is the preservation of the almost vegetation-free Keuperscharren and the extensively used lime- grass lawns with their adjoining bush formations and orchards as a habitat for numerous warmth-loving animal and plant species that are extremely endangered in their existence (especially from the group of insects ) and their communities.
