The Tongruben nature reserve near Niederprüm is located in the Eifel district of Bitburg-Prüm in Rhineland-Palatinate .

The approximately 3.5 hectare area, which was placed under nature protection in 1987 , extends southwest of Niederprüm , a district of Prüm . Not far to the west of the area runs the B 410 and flows the Prüm , to the east the B 51 runs .

The purpose of protection is the preservation, safeguarding and development of the former clay pits and their surrounding area as a secondary habitat for numerous, rare, endangered wild animal and wild plant species and their communities, in particular biocenoses adapted to open still water areas .
