The individual competition in archery women at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing was from 9 to 15 August at the Olympic Green Archery Field discharged. 64 athletes from 35 nations took part.

The competition began with a placement round, which formed the basis for the subsequent knockout round . Each shooter gave 72 arrows, the total number of points gave the rank.

Four groups were formed in the knockout round. Each shooter shot a series of three arrows. The winner of the series received two points and one point if there was a tie. A maximum of five series were shot. The shooter, who first scored six points, moved into the second round, then into the eighth, quarter and semi-finals, as well as the final or the duel for the bronze medal. If it was still a draw after five series, a decisive shot was fired that decided between victory and defeat.
